Dear Families, Friends, and Community of St. Augustine of Canterbury,
Throughout our 57 year history, St. Augustine of Canterbury School has always demonstrated excellence in education that is deeply rooted in the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church. St. Augustine fosters growth in students not only through traditional education, but provides students the skills that enable them to become informed young citizens of a globally interconnected world. The dedication and motivation of the faculty and staff of St. Augustine facilitates the transition of our students into life-long learners of the 21st century. One of the most important aspects of education is adaptability in meeting the needs of the students, and within the last month, adaptability has taken on a whole new definition. Students all across the country have been uprooted from their normal schedules and comforts of their known environments and plunged into a new world of “remote learning.” The change was abrupt and surrounded by uncertainty trepidation. However, we are a people of faith and we are never afraid to face a challenge, no matter what that challenge may be.
St. Augustine School has transformed into a center of remote learning that could rival any educational institution in the world. The teachers have gone “virtual” to continue the valued education of our students with no break in our step. Through the use of the Google platform, teachers are able to conduct their classes, not in person, but still in real time. The students are still receiving the quality education that St. Augustine School is known for as evidenced through our 2016 National Blue Ribbon of Excellence Award. St. Augustine School has also adopted the use of “Zoom” so that the students and teachers can continue to foster their “in-person” relationships which are so important to education and our human nature. From grades pre-k 3 to 8, the teachers conduct Zoom classes to help meet the needs of every individual student and ensure that they are still receiving high quality instruction. St. Augustine School has adapted seamlessly into our new realm of education and we will continue to meet any challenges that come our way. While it is inevitable that we will encounter darkness, there is nothing that can stop the Holy light of Christ’s Resurrection shining through.
